Erica Hill, who was born July 20, 1976 in Clinton, Connecticut, graduated Summa Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Boston University in 1998. She started a career in the media as a production assistant for the “PC Week Radio,” the web-based news program for “PC Week” magazine. During this time, Erica Hill went to Paris for a while to work as a conference coordinator for the Software Publishers Association Europe.
Erica Hill soon joined then-ZDTV and worked as an anchor for its “TechLive program,” the original format for TechTV News in San Francisco. While working for TechTV news, her big break came when she reported the September 11, 2001 terrorist attackslive and continued to report throughout the day as the events unfold. Her portfolio for TechTV also included producing and anchoring numerous topics for the show, including the technical details of the 2001 Oscars and the 2002 Winter Olympics as well as a debate about embryonic stem cell research.
Erica Hill joined CNN in January 2003. She has hosted Headline News’ segment, “Prime News with Erica Hill,” a two-hour news program included on CNN’s “Headline Prime” primetime lineup. During this time, Erica Hill has anchored numerous ground-breaking reports, such as the Northeast U.S. blackout, actor Heath Ledger’s death and Cory Lidle’s plane-flying into a New York apartment. Aside from providing the network political coverage for both the 2004 and 2008 presidential campaigns, Erica Hill has also served the national correspondent for CNN Newsource in the Washington DC bureau.
By April 2005, Erica Hill became a correspondent and sub-anchor for another CNN show, “Anderson Cooper 360°” in New York. Erica married lawyer David Yount on October 15, 2005. In 2006, Erica was included in People Magazine’s list of “100 Most Beautiful People” and ranked #35. Hill and her husband Yount also welcomed a son named Weston Robert on November 25, 2006. By February 12, 2007, Hill went back from her maternity leave and continued working for CNN. Some of her memorable news stories included the coverage on Hurricane Katrina live from Mississippi, the war in Iraq and the discovery of American contractor Thomas Hamill.
In February 2008, Erica Hill joined the Anderson Cooper 360° full-time and moved to New York. In mid-2008, Hill joined the Saturday edition of “The Early Show” and after a six-week temporary slot; she became a permanent co-anchor for the CBS show on September 27, 2008. She is currently one of the most successful news anchors for CNN and a correspondent for “Campbell Brown: No Bias. No Bull” and “Anderson Cooper 360°.”
